Crider finishes with 92

SAHS roundup

KENDALLVILLE - Tricia Crider of South Adams shot 92 at the regional tournament Saturday to close her season at Noble Hawk Golf Links.

Crider, who qualified for regional with a 92 at the sectional tournament, played even on two of the three par-3s on the back nine - the 110-yard 11th and the 122-yard 17th. Her other par of the day came on the 244-yard, par-4 seventh hole.

She opened her round with back-to-back bogeys before playing the next three holes at 7-over-par. She seven more bogeys to go along with her three pars, shooting 48 on the front nine and 44 on the back.

Haley King of Elkhart Memorial was the individual champion with a 4-over-par 74 as she won a playoff over Amy Thompson of Northwood.

Carroll's Ashley Kees (75) was the other individual qualifier, and advancing teams were eighth-ranked DeKalb (314), Warsaw (232) and East Noble (329).

Soccer places 2nd

NEW HAVEN - The Starfire boys soccer team finished as runners-up in Saturday's Allen County Athletic Conference tournament, topping Garrett 3-2 in overtime before falling 2-1 to Leo in the championship.

The SAHS girls fell 9-0 to Leo and 4-3 to Garrett.

Blake Bauman scored three times for the South Adams boys on the day, including the game-winning goal off a Melvin Slovak assist 3:43 into overtime in the opening game. He also scored on an assist from matt Fox against Garrett, and Zach Sharp added the other Starfire goal.

Bauman tallied the only Starfire goal against Leo, tying the game at the 31-minute mark of the first half. The Lions netted the game-winning goal with 17 minutes left in the game.

L.J. Moser had seven saves in each game for SAHS.

Katrina Hawkins had two goals for the Starfires against Garrett, putting the ball in the net for a 2-1 halftime lead. After the Railroaders pulled even, Hawkins scored again off of a Chelsey Nevil assists, but Garrett scored two more times to swipe the victory.

Victoria Smith had the first SAHS goal on an assist from Chelsey Roop.

Spikers drop three

FORT WAYNE - The South Adams volleyball team went winless Saturday in the Homestead tournament.

The Starfires fell 25-6, 25-18 to Heritage, 26-24, 25-11 against Goshen and 25-14, 25-18 to the host Spartans.[[In-content Ad]]
