A foreclosure action against property on which a CVS Pharmacy in Portland is operated should not affect store operations, a CVS representative said this week.
Marion County Superior Court granted Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. a foreclosure on the property located at 802 N. Meridian St., which is owned by Pham Indiana Realty LLC and The Cornerstone Group 630 LLC and contains the CVS store. A sheriff’s sale has been scheduled for Sept. 15.
Public relations director Mike DeAnglelis of CVS/Caremark said the foreclosure, however, shouldn’t have any effect on the site.
“It does not affect the operations of that store,” he said. “Our lease predates the mortgage that is in foreclosure.”
DeAnglelis said CVS leases “a vast majority” of the more than 7,000 locations it operates in the U.S.
Wal-Mart sales down
Sales at U.S. Wal-Mart locations open at least a year fell for the ninth consecutive time, dropping .9 percent in the second quarter.
The company said uncertainty about the economy is keeping consumers from spending, but a reduction in available merchandise made by the retailer also played a role, according to an Aug. 17 Wall Street Journal article.
Macy’s Inc. and J.C. Penney Co. have also reported their customers are reluctant to spend.
Biomass creation
A partnership between POET and The Earth Partners will seek to develop conservation biomass.
Creation of the conservation biomass, according to POET, has the potential to add value to land that is not normally highly productive, while simultaneously restoring those lands for future use.
The team’s goal for the biomass is for it to become sustainable. It will be used for heat and power generation initially, and eventually to produce liquid fuel.
Counselor hired
Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland, has announced the hiring of a new grief counselor.
Joe Hines, who recently re-tired from Jay County ministry after 35 years, recently joined the Baird-Freeman staff.
Conservation Connection extended
An Evansville-based energy company received approval Thursday to continue energy efficiency programs.
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission granted Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana the approval to continue Conservation Connection, a program Vectren says has saved enough natural gas to heat more than 30,000 homes for a year.
The program offers private residences and small businesses appliance re-bates, among other energy-conserving opportunities.
Expanding
A manufacturer of metal stampings for the automotive industry will create up to 75 new jobs by 2013.
Indiana Stampings LLC is leasing a 155,000-square-foot facility in Muncie, drawing on performance-based tax credits from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and local TIF bonds to help with funding.
In all, the company will invest $7.28 million into the project, according to a press release from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.[[In-content Ad]]
