Decatur knocks off Rockets
Portland Rockets
DECATUR — Missed opportunities cost the Rockets a chance to even the season series with their closest rival.
Portland grabbed an early lead Wednesday and trailed by just one with the bases loaded and no outs in the fifth inning. But it failed to score another run on the way to an 8-5 loss to the Decatur Dirty Birds.
The Rockets racked up 10 walks in the game, but were unable to take advantage as they fell to Decatur for the third time in four games this season.
Jay County High School graduate Heath Williams, who had two hits, staked Portland to the early lead as he singled in the first inning and later scored on a Mark Isenberg sacrifice fly. But the team fell behind as Tyler Mills gave up two runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the third.
Mills took the loss as he tossed just three innings before giving way to Bill Geeslin, who gave up four runs in three innings. Five of Decatur’s runs came with two outs, and four of its runs were unearned thanks to three errors by the Rockets.
Bryan Brudi, Chris Tillery and Isenberg had the only other hits for Portland.[[In-content Ad]]
