Delta shuts out Patriot netters

The 14th-ranked Delta Eagles turned in shutouts in seven of Tuesday’s nine varsity matches on the way to handing the host Jay County Patriots a 9-0 defeat.
The only JCHS players to win games against the Eagles were Drew Wood, Morton Garringer and Tony Schwieterman.
Wood found the most success for the Patriots (3-12) in a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Martin Gomez at No. 5 singles. In the No. 2 doubles match Garringer and Schwieterman fell 6-2, 6-1 against Zach Richardson and Jordan Chambers.
In junior varsity action Jay County lost 9-1 to the Eagles with the lone victory coming from Blake Boughman and Darren DeRome at No. 5 doubles.

WJ 8th stays perfect
MONTPELIER — James Williams led the West Jay Middle School eighth grade football team to a 18-0 victory over host Blackford as the Eagles improved to 5-0 on the year. The seventh graders won 6-0.
Williams tossed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Bryce Bantz and scored on a 65-yard interception return and a 49-yard run. Jacob LeMaster ran seven times for 74 yards.
Phillip Newsome scored the lone TD in the seventh grade game on a 45-yard run. Drew Huffman had five tackles for the Eagles (4-1).

Chiefs top Driver
The East Jay volleyball teams picked up victories over Driver Tuesday, the eighth graders by a 25-9, 25-12 score and the seventh graders 25-21, 25-11.
Kylie Osborne finished with 10 points and two kills for the seventh grade Chiefs, who improved to 7-5. Gabby Hart added nine points.
Malarie Houck finished with 11 points, including seven aces, for the eighth graders (4-8). Jessica Kerrigan and Breanne McIntire each totaled nine points.

Eagle 8th beats W-D
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s eighth grade volleyball team rallied from a game-one loss Tuesday to defeat visiting Wes-Del 12-25, 25-21, 15-10. The seventh grade Eagles fell 25-12, 25-12, and the sixth graders lost 25-10, 25-13.
Tyrah Westlake led the WJMS eighth graders with 10 points, including five in the second game. Breea Holdcroft scored four of her six points in the deciding third game.
Emily Job finished with five points for the seventh graders, and Alli Louck led the sixth grade team with four points.

EJ gridders fall
MUNCIE — The East Jay seventh grade football team slipped to 2-1 Tuesday with a 12-6 loss to the Muncie Wilson Panthers. The eighth grade squad lost 44-26.
Michael Vanover scored the only points for the Chiefs on a 52-yard TD run. Levi Hummel led the defense with six tackles.
Andrew McShane caught two touchdown passes and ran for a 65-yard score in the eighth grade game. Nick Clemmons tossed TD passes to Cameron Kunkler and McShane in the second quarter.[[In-content Ad]]
