Denney leads Patriots to 2-0 (08/19/2008)
Girls golf roundup
ANDERSON - Abby Denney was the only Patriot to break 50. But her career-best round was enough to lead the team.
Denney's 47 at Grandview Golf Course powered Jay County High School to a 201-219 victory Monday over the Anderson Highland Scots.
The victory over their Olympic Athletic Conference rival makes the Patriots 2-0 in dual matches this season.
It was a steady round for Denney, who had just one par but also recorded nothing worse than a double bogey to earn medalist honors. Her lone par came on the par-4 fourth hole, and the sophomore added four bogeys.
The top score for Anderson Highland was a 49 from Sarah Buck.
Cara Garringer and Ivy Simons, a sophomore senior respectively, followed Denney at 51. Garringer parred two of the first four holes, but was hurt later by four penalty strokes. Simons had four bogeys in her round.
Jennifer Hunt had five bogeys and finished with a par on the ninth hole at Grandview for a 52. Rachel Osterholt shot 59.
At the junior varsity level, Anneliese Jetmore posted the best score of any Patriot on the day with a 46 to lead the team to a score of 213. She recorded a par on the first hole and added five bogeys.
Alex Bunch had one par in her round of 55, and Macey Gerber and Brittany Stevens each shot 56. Megan Price finished with a 70.
