'Dinner and a Movie' is Friday
Taking Note
The Adams Public Library in Geneva will have Dinner and a Movie on Friday in the Porter Room at the library. Soup and a sandwich will be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by the movie “How to Train a Dragon” at 7 p.m.

Also “Craft Time” is held each Monday in October from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and “WANTED: Readers” will be each Thursday at 3:30 p.m., both for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Preschool story times are each Friday at 10:15 a.m.
Fall fire
The National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture, Inc. will have its Fall Friendship Fire Celebration of Saturday, Oct. 23.
Also Dani Tippmann, of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, will teach a Native Food and Winter Preparations class from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Women’s Building at Jay County Fairgrounds. Participants will make acorn flour, cattail mats and toys and learn how to dry foods over an open fire.
To register for the class by Oct. 18, send a check for $10, payable to NCGLNAC, to Kay Neumayr, 4950 North 750 East, Attica, IN 47918 or call (765) 426-3022.
Quilt show
The ninth annual Callithumpian Quilt Show, presented by the Creative Quilters Guild of Decatur, will be Saturday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 24, from noon until 4 p.m. at Riverside Center, 231 E. Monroe, Decatur.
There will be between 180 and 200 quilts on display and there will also be vendors and demonstrations.
Anyone wanting to display a quilt, may bring it to Riverside Center on Friday, Oct. 22, from 2 to 6 p.m.

LifeStream will sponsor the program Elder Justice: Confronting Elder Abuse in America on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Portland Place, 430 W. Lafayette St.

The Jay County Hospital Auxiliary will have its 17th Annual Celebration of Lights on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 6:30 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria.
Lights may be purchased in honor of someone, for weddings, birthdays, get well, anniversary, friendship, thank you or in memory.
A single light may be purchased for $5, a strand for $100 or a tree of lights for $300. Forms are available at Jay County Hospital, 500 W. Votaw St. in Portland.
Competition
The Marion Philharmonic Orchestra Friends will have its 21st annual Concerto/Aria competition on Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Phillippe Performing Arts Center at Wesleyan University in Marion.
The competition is open to high school and college students who have to play a movement from the standard repertoire with orchestral accompaniment.
