Domino's opens in Portland (6/25/05)

Business Roundup

A Domino’s Pizza franchise has opened in a Portland location vacated last fall by Papa John’s.

The store, located at 605 N. Meridian St. in the Portland Shoppes, opened on Tuesday.

It is owned by KB Pizza of Fort Wayne.

Kim Barber, the owner of KB Pizza along with husband Kevin, said this week that the company has recently opened three stores in former Papa John’s locations.

“Decatur, Bluffton and Portland all had Papa John’s, and they closed. We bought them, and Decatur opened first, then Bluffton, now Portland,” Kim Barber said. The Portland Domino’s “has been in the works since January.”

KB has 11 Domino’s locations in northeast and northwest Indiana.

The Portland Domino’s is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The store’s phone number is (260) 726-4000.

Card access halted

CVS Corp. has halted access to information about millions of its loyalty card customers.

Information about what card holders purchased could be obtained through the company’s web site. The Woonsocket, R.I. company decided to pull the information until it could install security measures.

The security flaw was exposed on Monday by Consumers Against Supermarket Privacy Invasion and Numbering, The Wall Street Journal reported this week.

A spokesperson for the group said anyone could log onto the company’s web site, enter the card number, the customer’s zip code and the first three letters of the customer’s name. A list of recent purchases would then be available.

“This underscores the amount of data — the very sensitive data — about us that CVS has been collecting,” the group’s director, Katherine Albrecht, told The Wall Street Journal.

Leaders program set

Ball State University’s fourth annual Emerging Leaders Development Program will be held this summer beginning on Aug. 30.

The 36-hour course is designed to prepare managers for leadership roles. Those who attend will learn about the challenges of leadership and change, how to enhance client relationships, strategic planning, intrapreneurship and how to develop and coach employees.

Classes will be held on Aug. 30, Sept. 13, Sept. 27, Oct. 11, Oct. 25 and Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an hour for lunch.

The cost is $1,750 per student, which includes instruction fees, program materials, daily continental breakfast and luncheon and refreshments. Discounts are available for Ball State alumni and companies registering several participants.
