Doubles lead JCHS to wins

MUNCIE — A perfect effort in doubles matches led the Patriots to their best day of the season.
The Jay County High School girls tennis team earned twice as many wins Saturday as it had all year, defeating the Muncie Southside Rebels 4-1 and the Connersville Spartans 3-2.
The Patriots (3-7) won all four doubles matches, with Ashley Caupp and Danielle Chenoweth rolling 6-1, 6-0 against Muncie Southside at No. 1. In the No. 2 doubles match, Alicia Degler and Kyla McKibben posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
Both doubles matches against Connersville went to a super-tiebreaker with Caupp and Chenoweth winning 6-2, 4-6 (10-7) and McKibben and Degler posting a 6-4, 1-6 (10-5) victory.
Jessica Ooten also went undefeated at No. 2 singles, scoring victories by scores of 6-0, 6-1 against Connersville and 6-3, 6-1 over Muncie Southside. Rachel Ray took the No. 3 singles match 6-4, 6-3 in the Patriots’ win over Southside.

SA golfers third
BLUFFTON — South Adams’ boys golf team posted a score of 381 to finish third behind Norwell (292) and Bellmont (339) at the Bi-County Tournament at Timber Ridge Golf Club.
Mark Smith led the Starfires at the six-team event with an 88. Mark Muselman followed with a 95, and Chase Mosser added a 96.
Sam Heckard rounded out the team score at 102, and Derek Fox posted a 103.

Northrop sweeps Jay
FORT WAYNE — The Jay County baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader — 7-1 and 10-0 in five innings — on Saturday to the host Northrop Bruins. The Patriots, who have now lost four straight, also fell 7-5 on the road Friday to the Mississinewa Indians.
Ty Huntsman, who gave up 10 runs in 4 2/3 innings, and Landry Inman, who allowed seven runs in six innings, were the losing pitchers Saturday. JCHS gave up a total of seven unearned runs in the doubleheader.
Huntsman singled and scored the only Patriots’ run, and Jon Lowe had a single in each game.
Ryan Miskinis hit a home run Friday and finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Andre Duke had two hits, three RBIs and a run.
Dustin Selvey suffered the defeat, giving up seven runs — six earned — on four hits and four walks in three-plus innings.

Tribe JV loses
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity softball team struggled to slow down the Arcanum Trojans on Saturday, losing both games of a doubleheader 11-1 in five innings and 16-8.
Beca Tobe took the game-one loss, although only three of the 11 runs against her were earned. Ashley Homan allowed 11 earned runs on 13 hits in the game-two defeat.
Jackie Fullenkamp had two-hits, including a triple, and two runs in the second game. Tobe also had two hits and two runs.
Sierra Loya went 2-for-2 and scored the only run in the opener.

Patriot JV 12th
NEW HAVEN — The Jay County junior varsity boys golf team finished 12th out of 15 teams Saturday with a score of 401 at the New Haven Invitational.
Adam Alfont was the only Patriot to break 100, finishing with a score of 90. Austin Wendel and Michael Bruggeman each posted 100s.
Seth Ainsworth had a 111 to complete the team score, and Mark Houck added a 116.

Pak-a-Sak wins two
All three Portland Junior League Rookie baseball games Saturday were decided by a single run, with Pak-a-Sak topping Ponderosa 15-14, Barnett’s Auto Parts beating Williams Auto Parts 10-9 and Jay County Monuments defeating All Circuit Electric 11-10.
In Rookie baseball Friday Pak-a-Sak defeated Monuments 23-10, and in Rookie softball Thursday Loy’s Real Estate and Auction beat Portland Optimist 13-1.
Cameron Langenkamp led Barnett’s to its victory, going 3-for-3 with five RBIs and three runs. Rylee Johnson had three hits, three runs and two RBIs for Pak-a-Sak, and Griffin Lennartz totaled three hits, two runs and two RBIs to lead Monuments.
In Friday’s game Blake Caldwell drove in five runs for Pak-a-Sak, and on Thursday Haley Gillette had three hits, including a pair of doubles, to pace Loy.[[In-content Ad]]
