Drumm attends convention (8/6/04)

Taking Note

Tara Drumm of rural Bryant recently attended the 96th annual Nation Convention of Delta Theta Tau Sorority held in Scottsdale, Ariz. Drumm represented Epsilon Phi Chapter of Pennville.

“Southwestern Splendors” was the theme of the 2004 convention, which was held at the Sunburst Resort.

Diana Smiley of Nu Chapter in Hartford City presided at the four-day event last month, which included recognition of more than $500,000 in charitable donations by chapters throughout the United States.

At the close of the convention, Rise Buzzard of Alpha Delta Chapter in Huntington was installed as president for the coming year.

On a national level, $15,000 was expended — including $10,000 for educational grants and $5,000 for the National Foundation of Ectodermal Dysplasia.

In recent years, the Pennville chapter has raised money for the Pennville Fire Department, and it also has given financial support to the Pennville Fair Board, Pennville-Penn Township Library, the Jay County Marching Patriots, Jay County High School After-Prom, Gym City Gliders and youth mission trips. Each year, it awards three scholarships to Jay County High School seniors, said Drumm, who is chapter treasurer.

DTT is a national philanthropic organization, which was founded in 1903.

The 2005 national convention will be held in Milwaukee, Wis.
