Employee honored
Sylvain Deville, a researcher in materials sciences at the Saint-Gobain/CNRS Joint Research Unit in Cavaillon (France), was awarded a Bronze Medal by the CNRS French Research .
Saint-Gobain is the parent company of Verallia, which operates a glass container factory in Dunkirk.
The medal was given to Sylvain Deville for his research on understanding and controlling the freezing of colloids.
The use of a highly original freeze-drying method, as a process to structure ceramics, has proven to be extremely interesting as it provides completely new structures controlled at the micrometric scale. Colloids are particles so small that they are unaffected by gravity.
Among the many applications of colloid freezing, its use for obtaining materials inspired from nature seems to be particularly innovative and promising, the company said in a prepared statement.
