One hit was all Michael Jobe would give the Eagles. Andy Hughes wasn't any more generous.

The pair of Jay County pitches combined for a two-hitter Wednesday as the Patriot baseball team crushed the Delta Eagles 10-1.

Jobe started the game and earned his fourth win of the season for JCHS (9-2). He went four innings, allowing just an unearned run on two walks and a hit.

Andy Hughes pitched three innings for the save, also giving up only one hit.

The pitching duo got plenty of support, including two hits and two RBIs apiece each from cousins Tony and Thomas McCowan. Josh Selvey also had two hits and scored two runs.

Josh Ludy hit yet another home run and drove in three runs while Jobe had a stolen base and three runs scored.

The Patriots, who finished 16th in the voting in this week's Class 3A poll, will be the No. 1 seed in the Olympic Athletic Conference tournament this weekend at Connersville.

JCHS will open against No. 4 seed Muncie Southside in the first game of the tournament at 10 a.m. Anderson Highland and Connersville, the No. 2 and 3 seeds respectively, will play in the other semifinal game, with the two opening-round winners meeting in the championship at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The only losses for Jay County this year came against Connersville, 9-5, and undefeated Class 3A No. 1 Norwell.[[In-content Ad]]
