Eagle 8th wins first, 7th still undefeated (09/10/04)

West Jay’s eighth graders picked up their first win of the year Thursday while the seventh grade team stayed perfect at 3-0.
The eighth grade Eagle volleyball team topped Westside 21-9, 19-21, 15-8, while the seventh grade team won 21-9, 21-19. Kelci Reed scored 10 points in the opening game for the eighth grade team (1-2) on the way to a team-high of 11. Terra Kelly had eight points, and Lindsey Current and Chelsea Grady each added seven.
Keri VanSkyock paced the seventh grade team with eight points. Amber McCowan had six points and Brittany Watson scored five.
EJ third at Bellmont
The East Jay and West Jay cross country teams took part in the Bellmont Conditioner Thursday, finishing in third and fifth place respectively. East Jay’s reserve team placed third.
The top Chief teams in the two-person partner event placed eighth. Kylie Wellman and Cassie Laux teamed to take eighth in the girls race while Kyle Simmons and Patrick Johnson were eighth in the boys race.
West Jay’s Kristen Selvey and Kelly Weaver were 10th in the girls race, followed immediately by Leah Wellman and Katie Butcher of East Jay in 11th.
Brady Mills and Jeremiah Cotherman were 13th for the West Jay boys, and Isaac Poole and Joey Franks were 15th for the Chiefs.
East Jay’s Derek Bartlett and Chase Wellman were eighth in the reserve race, followed by Phillip Powell and Brad Horn in 11th.[[In-content Ad]]
