Eagles blank Jay County netters

Top 20 or not, the Eagles are a handful.
The Jay County High School boys tennis team won just three games against visiting Delta on Tuesday in a 5-0 loss. The Eagles were ranked 18th in the state last week before dropping out of the top 20 this week.
Landry Inman was the only Patriot to take multiple games Tuesday as he fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to Delta’s Bradley Wuthrich. Jake Schwieterman and Evan Mathias lost 6-1, 6-0 to Jim Robillard and Collin Mercer at No. 2 doubles.
Each of the three other matches were shutouts as Josh Martin lost to Alex St. John at No. 2 singles, Garhett Blackford fell to Joe Wegener at No. 3 singles and Josh Lykins and Zach Pryor lost to Evan Rodenberger and Nick Wilson at No. 1 doubles.
Alex Krieg picked up a pair of junior varsity victories and Kody Degler also had a win as the Patriots fell 7-3.

Chief spikers win
East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade volleyball team rolled to a 25-3, 25-9 victory Tuesday over visiting Driver (Winchester).

The seventh graders won 25-16, 25-7.
Lizzy Schoenlein racked up 18 service points, including 10 aces, four assists and three kills for the Chief eighth graders, who improved to 9-3. Sydney Baughman had seven service points, and Abby Barcus added with three kills.
Alayna Aparicio paced the EJMS seventh grade team (3-8) with seven service points and seven aces on 20-of-20 serving. Katie Beougher had three kills and three service points.

EJMS football splits
MUNCIE — The East Jay eighth grade football team picked up a 14-6 victory Tuesday over host Wilson while the seventh graders lost 16-14.
Ian Reynolds scored for the Chiefs in the opening quarter with a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Ivan Hemmelgarn added a 1-yard scoring run in the second quarter, and Brian Stancliff ran in the two-point conversion.
Jade Smith scored both TDs on the ground for the EJMS seventh graders, Seth Fugiett finished 6-of-9 passing and Ethan Myers caught six passes for 73 yards. Gavin Hare forced two fumbles and had a tackle for a loss.[[In-content Ad]]
