A pair of swimmers accounted for four of Jay County’s five victories Tuesday.
Cori Vormohr and Tom McCord each picked up two victories as both Patriot teams lost to the visiting Oak Hill Golden Eagles in the first even meeting between the two schools. The JCHS girls fell 114.5-70.5 while the boys lost 122-64.
Vormohr won by a solid margin in her specialty events, the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly. She was first by nearly six seconds in both events, finishing first in the IM with a time of 2-minutes, 24.38 seconds and the butterfly in 1:04.56.
McCord was locked in a close race in the 50 freestyle, but stayed in control throughout to win by less than a second in 25.62.
He dominated the 100 backstroke, placing first by nearly seven seconds in 1:04.98.
Shan Willoughby was responsible for the only other Patriot victory on the evening. He posted his first career win with a personal-best time of 1:17.80 in the 100 breaststroke to edge teammate Lance VanSkyock (third - 1:18.93) and Oak Hill’s David Wood (second - 1:18.37).
Valerie Hobbs was the lone double winner for the Golden Eagles as she took the girls 100 and 200 freestyle. Oak Hill won all six relays in taking the pair of wins.
Lindsey Vesperry added a pair of second-place efforts for the Jay County girls in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Also placing second were April Acker in diving and Lauren Murrell in the 100 breaststroke.
Scott Walker was third most of the way in the boys 200 freestyle, but put on a great kick in the final 25 yards to place second. Steven Kelly finished second in diving, and Chance Milligan was second in the 100 freestyle.[[In-content Ad]]
