East Jay boys basketball clobbers Indians (12/11/07)

The Indians couldn't do much to slow the Chiefs Monday.

East Jay Middle School's boys basketball teams each rolled over Fort Recovery, the seventh graders by a 53-19 final and the eighth grade team 57-25.

The EJMS seventh grade boys locked down on defense after the opening quarter, allowing just nine points for the remainder of the game. In the two games combined, the host Chiefs scored in double digits in seven out of eight quarters while Fort Recovery did so just once.

Brock McFarland led a trio of players in double figures for the East Jay seventh graders, who are now a perfect 6-0, as he scored 14 points. Kegan Comer added 12 points, and Cade Price scored 11.

Trent Kaiser and Jacob Schoen were the high scorers for the Indians (1-3) with four points apiece.

Dillon Ainsworth paced the Chief eighth graders (5-1) with 13 points. Jordan McBride added 10 points, and Austin Cowan scored eight.

Fort Recovery (0-4) got seven points apiece from Jared Kahlig and Jason Pottkotter. Jacob Whitacre chipped in six points.

Tribe girls crush 'Hawks

FORT RECOVERY - There was still no stopping the Fort Recovery Middle School girls basketball teams Monday as both improved to 5-0.

The seventh grade team gave up just two points in each of the first two quarters as it rolled to a 33-14 victory over the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks. The eighth graders were even better defensively in a 41-9 win.

Kelly Nietfeld had 13 points and nine rebounds for the eighth grade Indians, who shut out Mississinawa Valley in the first quarter and gave up just one point in the third. Kylie Kahlig added nine points.

Chelsea Pottkotter put up nine points to pace the seventh graders. Rachel Rammel added eight points, and Amy Link totaled seven points and six rebounds.

Bruins bust JC freshmen

A shutout first half wasn't enough Monday as the Blackford Bruins hit a last second shot to score a stunning 19-18 comeback victory over the Jay County High School freshman boys basketball team.

The host Patriots had a 10-0 lead at halftime, and were up 12 with just a quarter to play. But JCHS managed just one hoop in the final period and Blackford roared back to win at the buzzer.

Drew Houck, who had Jay County's only fourth-quarter points, led the Patriots with nine. Garrett Krieg had four points.

FR freshmen girls win

FORT RECOVERY - A dominant start defensively set the tone Monday as the Fort Recovery High School freshman girls basketball team trounced the Marion Local Flyers 48-23.

The Indians (2-0) limited Marion Local to just three first-half points - one in the second quarter - for a 16-point lead at the intermission. They closed by scoring 21 points in the fourth period.

Holly Brunswick led a trio of Tribe players in double figures with 14 points. Olivia Thien had 12 points, Shelby Brunswick scored 10 and Kendra Brunswick just missed double digits with nine.[[In-content Ad]]
