East Jay boys teams get past South Adams (01/19/07)

After a couple of losses at Delta Tuesday, the East Jay boys basketball teams got back on track Thursday on their home court.

Two Chief eighth graders scored in double figures as they took a 34-26 victory over the South Adams Starfires. The seventh grade team improved to 8-5 as it rolled to a 37-24 win.

Aaron Emerick paced the eighth grade team (7-5) with 13 points. Drew Houck joined him in double figures with 11 points, and Austin Mann wasn't far behind as he finished with nine.

Andy Haffner led a balanced seventh grade effort with nine points. Austin Cowan added eight points, and seven other East Jay players scored at least two.

EJ grapplers edge Jets

The East Jay Middle School wrestling team eked out a 48-44 victory Thursday over the visiting Adams Central Jets.

The Chiefs came up with six pins as they improved to 5-1 on the season. Micah Boyer dominated in the 160-pound match, scoring a pin in just 11 seconds.

Other quick pins came from Chandler Stout (105) in 27 seconds, Vince Garcia (135) in 28 seconds and Dyllan Derrickson (115) in 56 seconds. Kyle Davidson (120) and D.J. Teeple (125) also won by fall.

Kane Bray and Robert Cooper each won in junior varsity action.

Indians fall to St. Henry

ST. HENRY, Ohio - Fort Recovery's eighth grade boys basketball team let a victory slip away. The seventh grade game was never close.

The Tribe eighth graders fell in overtime Thursday to the St. Henry Redskins, 40-36. The seventh grade squad suffered a 41-27 defeat.

The Fort Recovery eighth grade team (0-8) was en route to its first win as it led by six heading into the final period, but allowed 22 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. Nate Bihn had 11 points in the loss, and John Homan scored 10.

St. Henry grabbed a 20-4 lead in the opening quarter as it topped the Indian seventh graders (1-7). Jared Kahlig finished with 14 points, and Jacob Whitacre added six.

Eagles fall to Salamonie

DUNKIRK - Salamonie proved too much for the West Jay Middle School girls basketball teams Thursday as the Eagles dropped the eighth grade game 32-18 and the seventh grade contest 33-10.

Taylor Burris and Annie Jetmore shared the scoring high for West Jay, each putting in seven points in the eighth grade game.

Latrisha McEwen led the seventh grade Eagles with three points, and Jessi Chittum and Kelsey Sell added two points apiece.

Chiefs defeat Baskett

The East Jay sixth grade girls basketball team overcame an early deficit to improve to 3-0 with a 28-12 triumph Thursday over Gas City's R.J. Baskett Middle School.

Rachelle Jackson paced the Chiefs with six points and three steals. Hannah Ainsworth and Gabie Cross each added five points. Cross grabbed a team-high six rebounds, and Ainsworth had three assists.

Courtney Snyder had four points for the B team, which dropped to 0-3 with a 12-10 defeat.[[In-content Ad]]
