East Jay ends season with tie

The East Jay Middle School seventh grade football team finished its season Thursday by tying Richmond Dennis 6-6.
The game was scoreless in regulation before both teams scored touchdowns on their overtime possessions. But they both failed to convert their two-point attempts, resulting in the tie.
Michael Vanover, who picked up 58 yards on five carries, scored the Chiefs’ touchdown on a 5-yard pass from Adrian Stewart. Levi Hummel and Alex Stout each made four tackles for EJMS (5-2-2).
Also on Tuesday the East Jay eighth graders suffered a 28-8 loss to the host Delta Eagles.
The Chiefs trailed 20-0 before Levi Stant caught a 9-yard TD pass from Nick Clemens in the fourth quarter. Kalob Toland ran for the 2-point conversion.
Hill places third
NEW CASTLE — Halle Hill had the best finish from a group of local gymnasts who competed for Mid-American Gymnastics, Marion, in the Weekend in Paradise meet Oct. 16 and 17.
Hill turned in her top effort in the 8-year-old Level 5 vault, tying for third place with an 8.35. Courtney Miles was fourth on the balance beam with a 9.0, Korinna Schindler had an 8.875 on the floor exercise and Riley Leavell posted an 8.0 on the beam.
Hill and Schindler each picked up victories a week earlier at the Graveyard Smash in Lafayette. Hill had an 8.95 for first on the vault, and Schindler won the floor with an 8.85.
Schindler was second on the rest of her events in the 12-year-old Level 7 competition, and was the runner-up in the all-around with a 30.75. Jocelyn Huey added an 8.65 for third place in the 12-year-old Level 5 vault competition.
Miles posted a career-best 9.425 on the vault and qualified for the state meet, and Leavell had an 8.0 on the vault.[[In-content Ad]]
