East Jay girls bash Montpelier (10/03/03)

Montpelier never had a chance against the East Jay girls cross country team. The Chiefs swept the top five finishing spots for a perfect 15-40 victory Thursday.
East Jay’s seventh grade boys also defeated Montpelier 24-31 while the eighth grade boys took a difficult 27-28 defeat.
Amanda Johnson picked up another first-place finish for the girls team with a time of 11:48. She was trailed by Amber Detro in 12:02.
Kylie Wellman was third in 12:21, Cassandra Laux was next in 13:02 and Brianne Wellman took fifth in 13:10.
Steven Kelly earned the win for the seventh grade boys team, crossing the line in 11:50. Joey Franks was fourth in 12:30, with Dan Muhlenkamp fifth in 12:54 and Colt Martin in sixth one second behind.
David Darby took eighth to finish the team scoring in 13:03.
Edwin Clott made it an East Jay first-place sweep as he won the eighth grade boys race in 11:07. Cody Sutton placed third in 11:13 and Justin Hall was fifth as he finished in 11:43.
Justin Moser placed ninth in 12:05, and Leo Muhlenkamp was 10th with a time of 12:11.
Fort 7th edges ML
The Fort Recovery seventh grade football team had just enough Thursday, defeating the Marion Local Flyers 8-6. The eighth grade team lost 14-8.
Matt Braun had the lone Tribe touchdown on a 44-yard run for the seventh grade team. Wes Kahlig ran in the game-winning two-point conversion.
The eighth grade team scored its only touchdown on a 15-yard pass from Clint Tobe to Eric Lamm. Tobe hit Mike Trobridge on the two-point conversion pass.
Eagles split pair
West Jay’s eighth grade volleyball team held on for a 21-10, 18-21, 23-21 victory over Winchester Driver Thursday. The seventh grade team lost to Driver 10-21, 21-12, 21-12.
Jesi Fuller scored 10 points for the eighth grade team. Janae Hatfield had six, and Brittany O’Dell and Brittany Crabtree each had four.
Chelsea Grady scored 13 points to pace the seventh grade team. Kelci Reed had nine, and Kerri VanSkyock scored six.
Northside downs EJ
The Muncie Northside football teams were too much for East Jay Thursday. The seventh grade team suffered an 18-8 defeat while the eighth grade team lost 16-0.
Vincent Vasquez scored the lone touchdown on a 98-yard fumble return for the seventh grade team (2-2). Billy Wellman passed to Colton Lombardo for the two-point conversion.
The eighth grade team managed just three rushing yards in the defeat. Heath Rigby finished 7-for-17 passing for 26 yards.
Michael Jobe led the team with 12 tackles. Sam Lyons had two interceptions, and Clint Muhlenkamp added one.[[In-content Ad]]
