East Jay places 2nd in tourney (09/12/05)

DUNKIRK — West Jay won one match and East Jay took two, both finishing behind champion Wes-Del at the West Jay eighth grade volleyball Invitational Saturday.

The host Eagles defeated South Adams 25-18, 25-16, but lost to Wes-Del 25-13, 25-15. East Jay’s Chiefs managed the same split, defeating South Adams 25-21, 25-19 and falling to Wes-Del 25-17, 25-19.

East Jay won a tight battle between the two county teams, edging West Jay 25-19, 14-25, 15-9 in the only three-game match of the tournament.

Ashley Langenkamp and Lindsey Wellman paced the Chiefs to their winning record.

Langenkamp had 11 points, six on aces. Wellman added eight points and five kills.

Pazia Speed finished with seven points, including four aces, and Liz Walker totaled six assists.

West Jay was powered by Keri VanSkyock, who had 20 points. Brittney Watson added 17 points, and Amber McCowan also reached double digits with 13.

West Jay’s sixth and seventh grade team lost 25-17, 25-11 to Wes-Del and 25-8, 25-13 to East Jay at the invitational.

Breanna Dahlstrom paced the Eagles in both matches, finishing with four points in the first and three in the second. Hayley Knight added three points against Wes-Del.

Tribe tops Wapak

WAPAKONETA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s freshman volleyball team jumped back above .500 Saturday with a 25-15, 11-25, 15-5 victory over the Wapakoneta Redskins.

Annie Koesters paced the Indians, who improved to 3-2, with team bests of eight points, four kills and two blocks. Rachel Tobe also scored eight points.

Chelsea Klenke added five points and two kills.

Eagles drop pair

WABASH — West Jay’s football teams managed just six combined points Saturday as they each lost to Northfield.

The seventh grade team recorded the lone score of the day in the second quarter, but fell 30-6. The eighth grade team suffered a 33-0 shutout.

Zach Cash and Anthony Skeens provided the Eagle highlight of the day, connecting on a 65-yard touchdown pass during the second quarter of the seventh grade game. But, Northfield took a 22-0 lead into halftime and scored again the third quarter for the final margin.

Minster overpowers FR

MINSTER, Ohio — Two Tribe football teams took on the Minster Wildcats Saturday, both falling in shutouts.

The Fort Recovery junior high football team lost 22-0, and the eighth grade squad fell 8-0.[[In-content Ad]]
