East Jay runners top Golden Bears (05/06/04)


Three different athletes scored a pair of wins for the East Jay boys track team Wednesday as it clobbered Monroe Central 63-37. The girls team also rolled to victory by a 61-39 count.

Cody Sutton, Edwin Clott and Dexter Shreve each won two individual events for the boys team.

Sutton was first in the hurdles in 18.1 seconds, and took the 200-meter dash in 27.3. Clott took care of the distance events, winning the 800-meter run in 2-minutes, 34 seconds and the 1,600-meter run in 5:38.15.

The pair also teamed with Lance Franklin and Clint Muhlenkamp to take first in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:21.

Shreve earned both of East Jay’s field event victories, taking the high jump at 5 feet, three inches and the long jump at 15 feet, one-quarter inch. He joined Franklin, Jason Rosenbeck, and Nathan Stephen to triumph in the 4x100-meter relay in 55.02.

Franklin also earned a win of his own, finishing first in the 100-meter dash in 13.0. Muhlenkamp took the 400-meter dash victory with a time of 1:03.

Five different athletes grabbed one win apiece for the girls team.

Erika Hunt topped the field in the hurdles at 18.8 seconds, and Amanda Johnson won the 1,600-meter run in 6:20. The pair joined Sarah Mescher and Stephanie Wellman to win the 4x400-meter relay in 4:59.

Kaelee Keller picked up her victory in the 200-meter dash in 29.875, and Amber Edmundson gave the Chiefs their lone field-event win at four feet, seven inches in the high jump. They teamed with Mescher and Tequila Guntle for the 4x100-meter relay win in 57.7.

Brianne Wellman added the final East Jay win, crossing the finish line in the 800-meter run in 2:56.[[In-content Ad]]
