EJMS football
MUNCIE - For the first time all season, the Chiefs found themselves staring at a deficit. But, it didn't last all that long.
The East Jay Middle School seventh grade football team reclaimed the lead from Muncie Northside in less than five minutes to start a run of 24 unanswered points Thursday for a 24-6 victory. The eighth graders lost to Northside, 29-14.
Northside returned the opening kick for a touchdown in the seventh grade game, but just 4:22 later Daniel Walter caught a 50-yard pass from Brock McFarland to even the score and the Chiefs were off and running. Kaleb Clark added a 2-point conversion run to give EJMS (5-0) the lead, and Cade Price added a 4-yard TD run two minutes into the second period.
Clark added a 30-yard scoring scamper in the third quarter, and McFarland and Price also had 2-point conversions. Dillon Jutte and Trent Whitenack each had sacks in the game, and Ivan Cox picked off a pass.
The East Jay eighth grade team (3-3) turned the ball over six times on the evening and fell behind 14-0 before Andre Duke hit Kamron Bentz with a 72-yard TD pass in the third quarter. However Northside pushed its lead back out to 29-6, and Austin Cowan caught a 4-yard pass from Brock McFarland (he added a 2-point conversion run) for the final margin.[[In-content Ad]]
