East Jay wins at Selma (09/17/07)

Middle School cross country

SELMA - Both the East Jay and West Jay middle school cross country teams competed in the Selma Invitational Saturday with the Chief girls finishing first. East Jay was also second in the eighth grade boys race.

In the seventh grade boys race, East Jay placed fourth and West Jay finished ninth.

Katie Simmons and Amber Huelskamp turned in an impressive one-two finish for the Chiefs in the girls race. They far outdistanced the field, with Simmons taking first in 12-minutes, 20 seconds, and Huelskamp just two seconds back as the runner-up.

Whitney Weist of Winchester Driver was the next closest runner in third place at 12:44.

Another pair of East Jay runners went back-to-back in the top 10 with Tiffany Huelskamp sixth in 13:04 and LeAnn Horn one second behind in seventh. Abigail Johnson capped the team score in sixth at 13:22.

Liz Lennartz had the top time for the West Jay girls, finishing two seconds ahead of Johnson in 10th place. Miranda Gerber was 47th in 15:17 along with Meagan Price (51st - 15:28) and Cierra Nichols (52nd - 15:29).

Two top-10 finishes powered the East Jay eighth grade boys' runner-up effort. Austin Bentz led the team in fourth place at 10:54, just seven seconds off the winning pace, and Bradley Leuthold took sixth in 11:16.

Eddie Muhlenkamp was 16th in 12:20, followed by Jordan McBride (23rd - 12:49) and Aaron Loy (25th - 12:53).

Dylan Friddle finished 40th for in 13:46 for West Jay. Zach Johnson placed 44th in 14:09 and Zac Pitser took 54th at 17:04.

The Eagles' Kyle Selvey posted the top local time in the sixth and seventh grade boys race, finishing eighth in 12:11. Joining him were Lee Mock (57th - 14:40), Dan Miller (63rd - 15:49), Levi Pitser (65th - 16:13) and Jon Lowe (69th - 18:00).

Kyle Scott paced East Jay in 18th as he crossed the line in 12:33. The rest of the Chief runners finished within 22 seconds of each other - Zach Fullenkamp (27th - 12:54), Chaz Carroll (29th - 13:06), Austin Muhlenkamp (31st - 13:11) and Alex Dunn (34th - 13:16).[[In-content Ad]]
