East Jay's girls win big over HC (05/10/07)

The Chiefs just missed a sweep.
East Jay Middle School's girls track team won all but one event Monday in an 83-17 destruction of Hartford City. The boys team managed just three wins in a 67-33 defeat.
Jordan McMillan picked up another two wins for the Chiefs, and Maria Murphy led sweeps in both throwing events.
Murphy launched the shot put 28 feet, 8 inches to finish in front of teammates Mollie May and Brittany Manor. She took the discus at a distance of 73 feet, 5 inches with Sara Ninde second and Abby Denney third.
McMillan finished first in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches and the 200-meter dash in 30.42 seconds.
Laura Castillo took the top spot in the 100 dash at 14.52 while Deidre Chenoweth won the 400 dash with a time of 1-minute, 15.15 seconds. Adding distance wins were Katie Butcher at 2:53.05 in the 800 run and Leah Wellman in 6:20 in the 1,600 run.
EJMS teams also took the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Wins in the running events for the boys team came from Cade Price in the 400 dash in 1:07.14, and Austin Bentz in the 1,600 run in 6-minute, 3 seconds. Garrett Krieg recorded a distance of 16 feet, 51/4 inches to win the long jump.
