Eels defeat 'Rays

ARCANUM, Ohio — Six members of the Fort Recovery Eels summer swim team won three events apiece as the squad opened its season Tuesday with a 964.5-548.5 victory over the Arcanum Stingrays.
Cassidy Martin, Alexis Bupb, Ava Bup and Cori Stone picked up three wins each in the girls events, and Aidan Sheridan and Noah Lennartz were the triple winners among the Fort Recovery boys.
Adding two victories apiece were Owen Sheridan, Claire Evers, Ben Grieshop, Marissa Spoltman, Marshall Hull, Carley Stone and Noah Thobe.
Waters tosses shutout
ROME, Italy — Another trip to the mound meant another shutout for Jay County High School graduate Mitch Waters, who pitched the Sala Baganza Baseball Club to an 11-0 victory over Urbe Roma.
Waters went the distance in the eight-inning victory, striking out 11 batters. He gave up just four hits and two walks.
He leads Italy’s Serie 2A in both wins (five) and ERA (0.61). He is also third in strikeouts (83) and opponents’ batting average (.172).
Johnson leads
Rylee Johnson led a strong effort from Pak-A-Sak at the plate Tuesday as it rolled to a 24-2 Portland Junior League Rookie baseball victory over Barnett’s Auto Parts. All Circuit Electrical topped Ponderosa 12-7.
Johnson smacked hits in each of his three at bats and finished with five RBIs and three runs. Blake Caldwell added four hits, three runs and three RBIs.
R.J. Lennartz notched a pair of triples to go along with two runs and two RBIs to pace All Circuit.[[In-content Ad]]
