EJ geography bee winners announced (01/17/06)

East Jay Middle School recently held its Geography Bee. Richie Carducci was the winner. He is a sixth grade student and the son of Rich and Carolyn Carducci.
The runner-up was eighth-grader Colton Prescott. His parents are Steve and Jane Prescott.
Exercise program
Jay County Public Library will have an afternoon exercise program on Wednesday from 2:45 to 4 p.m. There will be 30 minutes of exercise, a drink and snack and an activity or story. Children of all ages are welcome, but preschoolers must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is needed.
Art exhibit
Snapshots of Indianapolis artist Quincy Owens are on display now through March 11 at Arts Place in Portland.
There will be a reception on Saturday, Jan. 21, to honor Owen’s talents. The reception is free and open to the public. The reception will be followed by a benefit concert by local musician Ken Bantz with proceeds to benefit Heartlite and other supplemental energy assistance programs.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Scholastic Bowl
Fort Recovery High School will participate in the Seventeenth Annual Mercer Savings Bank MAC Scholastic Bowl on Monday, Jan. 23, from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at New Knoxville High School. The Fort Scholastic team is coached by Marge Dilworth.
Book sale
The Fort Recovery Friends of the Library will sponsor a used book sale beginning Monday, Jan. 23, and continuing through Saturday, Jan. 28.
The library is open Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Art classes
Arts Place in Portland will begin Winter 2006 arts classes in February. Artist Zach Medler will teach After School Arts for students K-8, Adult Ceramics and Ceramics for Kids. Anyone interested may register at Arts Place, call (260) 726-4809 or online at www.artsland.org.
Medler will also teach classes at Arts Place, the Collective Center in St. Marys, Ohio. You may register by calling (419) 394-0707.
Dean’s list
Travis C. Richards, Portland, a mechanical engineering student at Tri-State University in Angola has made the dean’s list for the fall semester.
Melissa J. Muhlenkamp, Bryant, has made the dean’s list for the fall semester at Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio. She is majoring in agriculture.[[In-content Ad]]
