EJ spikers topple Monroe Central (09/30/04)

PORTLAND — Both East Jay volleyball teams were victorious for the second straight night Wednesday.
Following Tuesday’s wins over Union City Westside, the Chiefs eighth grade team stomped Monroe Central 25-13, 25-10. The seventh graders took a 25-19, 25-13 victory.
Mackenzie Loy had a tremendous match for East Jay as she racked up nine points, including five aces. She also had three digs and three kills, both team highs.
Kaelee Keller also scored nine points, and Cori Vormohr had four aces en route to a seven-point effort.
Pazia Speed powered the seventh grade team with 12 points, eight of which came on aces. Liz Walker added six points, five of which were aces.
Lindsey Wellman had four kills, Kelsey Wood notched four assists and Shelby Gierhart had two digs.
SA needs coaches
South Adams is in need of junior high basketball coaches for the upcoming season. Those interested should call athletics director Steve Rhoades at (260) 589-8231 or varsity coach Doug Beall at (260) 589-3131.
Winter swim
Practices for the Jay County Winter Swim Team will begin Monday.
Practice will be at 6:15 p.m. at the Jay County High School pool. The team is open to swimmers of all ages, but they must have previous swimming experience.

Fort tickets
Tickets for Fort Recovery’s football game at Delphos St. Johns Saturday are on sale.
They will be sold in the high school office today until 4 p.m. and Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. They will also be available in the middle school office Friday from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
Advance tickets are $4 for students and $5 for adults. All tickets at the gate will be $5.
Golf outing
The Randolph County YMCA and St. Vincent Randolph Hospital will host the YMCA/St. Vincent Open Sunday at Winchester Golf Club.
There will be prizes for the winning teams as well as special contests throughout the day. The cost to enter is $40.

Parkway High School will host a basketball officiating class for OHSAA licensing beginning Monday at 6 p.m.
