The East Jay seventh grade boys basketball team had a balanced scoring effort as it stayed undefeated with a 39-25 win over South Adams Tuesday. The eighth grade team also beat the Starfires, 38-36.
Eleven different players scored for the seventh grade Chiefs (7-0). Adam Garringer and Dexter Shreve topped the list with six points apiece.
Michael Jobe put in 16 points as the eighth grade team (5-2) squeaked out a victory. Heath Rigby was next with nine points.
Price paces Eagles
Blake Price did most of the scoring for the West Jay seventh grade boys basketball team as it topped Salamonie Tuesday 29-24. The eighth grade team earned a 59-46 win over Montpelier.
The seventh graders (5-6) led by 16 heading into the final period before withstanding a furious Salamonie rally. Price paced the team with 19 points.
West Jay’s eighth grade team led throughout the second half with Brandon Buckland scoring a team-best 10 points. Dustin Fox had eight points, Zach Hummer scored seven and Kyle Cook finished with six.
Seeds hold in tourney
The tournament seeds held true as the early rounds of the Jay Community Center’s 3-on-3 basketball league were played Sunday.
The top four seeds — City of Portland, Soggy Bottom Boyz, Lucky and Muddy Waters — each won their opening-round games of the double-elimination tournament.
In loser’s bracket elimination games, Teal Automotive beat FCC Indiana 102-101, Jesse Walter Construction blasted Berne Furniture 84-48 and Teal Automotive topped Jay Community Center 113-84.
Eric Garringer was the top scorer for the week, scoring 133 points in two games for FCC Indiana. Mitch Waters had 52 points in the win for Muddy Waters, and Tony Overton poured in 49 points for Lucky.
The tournament will continue Sunday at 3 p.m.

Saturday’s Jay County boys basketball game against Muncie Southside will be played at the Muncie Fieldhouse. The Fieldhouse is located on the Muncie Central campus.[[In-content Ad]]
