EJ students win contest (1/25/05)
Taking Note
Three East Jay Middle School students have won the school-level competition of the Reader’s Digest National Word Power Challenge.
Eighth grader Jarrett Tomey, seventh grade student Jessica Carducci and sixth grader Anthony Seelnacht won by answering oral and written questions on vocabulary.
They will advance to the State Championship on March 18. The students’ academic coach is D. Kilander.
WHO’S WHO
Indiana Wesleyan University senior Amber Jewell Alberson of Portland has been chosen as a national outstanding campus leader by Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
She is majoring in management and marketing.
OPERATOR CLASSES
The Whitewater Valley Railroad in Connersville will conduct operating classes each Saturday at 9 a.m. beginning Feb. 12 and continuing through April 2.
The classes are for brakeman, conductor, fireman, engineer, agent and operator.
The classes will allow volunteers to operate at the Whitewater Valley Railroad only. The cost is $15. For more information, call (765) 825-2054 or visit www.whitewatervalleyrr.org.
DINNER FUN
The Whitewater Valley Railroad also announces its train to dinner fun for Valentine’s Day weekend.
Rails to romance will depart Connersville on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m. to take couples to the Laurel Hotel Restaurant, a quaint country restaurant specializing in pan fried chicken and other home cooked meals.
The cost is $30 and includes train fare, dinner, drink, tax and tip.
