EJ wrestlers slam Wes-Del (01/25/08)

Another night of double-digit pins gave the East Jay Middle School wrestling team an 84-18 victory Thursday over the Wes-Del Warriors.

Preston Overholser was off the mat in a hurry as he paced the Chiefs with a pin in just 13 seconds in the 120-pound match. Brandon Poore (105) scored his pin in 25 seconds.

Conner Ray (80) won in 48 seconds, Tanner Schlichter (135) picked up a pin in 51 and Eric Beougher (145) ended his match in 56. Other pins came from Braden Smith-Lykins (85), Skyler Sibery (90), Matt Segraves (100), Zac Metcalf (110), Austin Bentz (115) and Nick Leonhard (125).

Ivan Cox (75) and Leonhard (100) earned pins in junior varsity action, but East Jay fell 30-12.

Eagle 7th defeats MC

PARKER CITY - West Jay Middle School's seventh grade girls basketball team overcame a two-point first quarter Thursday to defeat the host Monroe Central Golden Bears 21-19. The eighth grade team lost 53-18.

West Jay's seventh graders trailed 6-2 after the opening period, but pulled to within two at halftime.

The game was tied after three quarters, and the Eagles (4-8) outscored Monroe Central 4-2 in the final period to eke out the win.

Shelby Shirk just missed double figures as she led WJMS with nine points. Taylor Franklin added eight.

The Eagle eighth grade squad (3-11) gave up at least 10 points in every period. Megan Sawyer and Chelsea Easton each finished with six points.

EJ 7th takes first loss

The perfect campaign came to an end Thursday for the East Jay Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team as it lost 35-28 to visiting Muncie Wilson. The eighth grade team also fell, 29-24.

The EJMS seventh graders, who opened with 14 consecutive wins, managed just one point in the second quarter and never recovered. Brock McFarland led the Chiefs with 12 points, and Cade Price added eight.

East Jay's eighth grade team trailed by just two at the half as it slipped to 11-4. Andy Haffner finished with 10 points, and Matt Landfair and Jordan McBride each had three.

Chiefs/Eagles split

The East Jay and West Jay middle school sixth grade girls basketball teams split games Thursday. The Chiefs won the A team game 24-12 while the Eagles took the B team contest 17-14.

Katlin Petro led East Jay to the A team win with nine points and six rebounds. Katie Aker and Abby Dunlavy added four points apiece.

Chelsea Tighe had six points for West Jay, and Ashley Motter scored four.

Tighe led WJMS in the B team game with six points. Alex Franklin chipped in five.

Sara Bollenbacher had eight points for East Jay, and Cheyanne Dull and Mackenzie Overholser added five rebounds apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
