EJMS runners crush Montpelier (09/30/05)

East Jay clobbered Montpelier Thursday, taking the top 13 positions in the seventh grade boys race and the top nine in the girls race. Each of those teams won by a 15-50 score. The Chief eighth grade boys posted 23 points while Montpelier did not have enough runners for a team score.

Bradley Leuthold and Ed Muhlenkamp led the domination for the seventh grade boys, finishing 30 seconds ahead of the rest of the pack and more than two minutes ahead of the nearest Montpelier competitor. Leuthold was first with a time of 12-minutes, 33 seconds, and Muhlenkamp finished two seconds behind him in 12:35.

Garrett Krieg finished third in 13:03, Jacob Heitkamp was fourth in 13:20 and Seth Ainsworth completed the team score in fifth in 13:42.

Following the top five to finish sixth through 13th were Austin Bentz, Colby Cline, Teedric Nichols, Joe Imel, Evan Ryder, Wiley Young, Austin Duncan and Blake LeMaster.

East Jay’s girls were nearly as dominant, with Leah Wellman and Katie Simmons finishing a minute faster than the top runner from Montpelier. Wellman was first in 13:07, and Simmons placed second in 13:09.

LeAnn Horn followed in third place with a time of 12:22, Katie Butcher was fourth in 13:35 and Lindsay Moser took fifth in 13:36.

They were followed by Mallory Poole, Deidre Chenoweth, Carrie Schmitmeyer and Renae Ray in sixth through ninth.

Tevan Nichols, Patrick Johnson and Brad Horn gave the Chief eighth grade boys a one-two-three finish. Nichols topped the charts one second ahead of Johnson in 11:47, and Horn was third in 12:35.

Ben Walter was next for East Jay in eighth in 13:31, and Ben Brandt placed ninth in 13:57.

Jay takes JV win

MUNCIE — Jay County’s boys team took first place in the junior varsity division at Delta’s Eagle Invitational Saturday.

Doug Murray led the Patriots in fourth place, immediately followed by Robert Ralston in fifth and Denny Gardner in sixth. Josh Stultz was 11th, and Cody Sutton completed the team score in 15th.[[In-content Ad]]
