EJMS takes opener

The East Jay Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team needed a little extra time Tuesday, but it got the job done.

The Chiefs pulled out a victory in overtime, 33-30 over visiting Adams Central.

Zane Shreve led EJMS to victory in its season opener with 19 points. Zach Fullenkamp added six points, and Jacob Schlosser scored four.

Chief girls split

OSSIAN - East Jay's seventh grade girls came up big in the fourth quarter Tuesday for a 21-17 victory over host Norwell. The eighth graders struggled to score late in the game, falling 29-23 in overtime.

Breanne McIntire scored 10 points to pace the Chief seventh graders, who outscored Norwell 10-5 in the final period to take the victory. Catherine Dunn added five points.

EJMS led the eighth grade game by four after the third quarter, but got outscored 12-2 in the fourth quarter and overtime. Katlin Petro scored eight points, Alex Loy had five and Katie Aker chipped in four.

Eagle 7th tops SA

BERNE - Nate Brackman put together a strong scoring effort Tuesday to key the West Jay seventh grade boys basketball team's 38-31 victory over the host South Adams Starfires. SAMS won the eighth grade game 38-26 over the Chiefs.

Brackman's 24 points led the seventh graders to their season-opening victory. James Williams added six points.

Kyle Selvey totaled nine points for the WJMS seventh graders, and Toby McCallister had seven.

Three finish first

MARION - Three members of Portland's Judan Judo placed first at the Nov. 14 Red, White and Blue Classic.

Kelsi Bostic, Kendra Bickel and Abby Muhlenkamp led the club with their first-place efforts. Betsi Gagle, Isabelle Minnich, Gabrielle Minnich, Adam Wilhelm, Brandon Parr, Seth Corwin and Brayden Springer all finished second, and Chiann Cupples and Brandon Resler took third place.[[In-content Ad]]
