A Fort Recovery egg producer is donating eggs to fill Easter baskets and stomachs of needy Ohio residents.
Fort Recovery Equity, along with Hemmelgarn and Sons Inc., Coldwater, Ohio, is donating more than a half-million eggs to Second Harvest Food Bank.
The donation is part of a statewide contribution by the egg industry to 12 food banks in the Second Harvest Food Bank network.
Second Harvest fills food pantries in Mercer and Auglaize counties, as well as 88 other Ohio counties.
"Having wholesome, safe food to put on the dinner table should be an expectation, not a luxury, for Ohio's families," Jerry Knapke, operations manager of Fort Recovery Equity, recently told The Daily Standard (Celina, Ohio) newspaper. "Our company is honored to help Ohioans who are less fortunate."
Other egg producers who will be making donations this Easter season include Cal-Main Farms, Rossburg, Ohio, Weaver Brothers, Versailles, Ohio, Hillandale Farms, Akron and Croton, Ohio, and Hertzfeld Poultry Farms of Grand Rapids, Ohio.
Schneider wins
The Schneider Corporation, which has worked with the city of Portland on several projects, has won the Indiana Partnership for Transportation Quality award in the major new/reconstruction rural category.
The company won the award for its partnership with the city and LICA Construction in the widening of Industrial Park Drive, Portland.
Schneider, an Indianapolis engineering firm, was founded in 1962.
Seeking nominations
The Indiana State Medical Association is currently seeking nominations for its 2008 Physician Community Service Award.
The award honors an Indiana physician for volunteer activities in civic, cultural, social or economic origanizations.
To be eligible, physicians must:
•Be licensed to practice in Indiana.
•Not received the award previously.
•Have an outstanding record of community service.
Nominations will be reviewed by the nominee's peers.
Deadline for nominations is June 4.
