Ethanol plant weighs expansion

Business Roundup

Randolph Economic Development Corporation Consulting Director Greg Beumer told Randolph County Commissioners Monday that Cardinal Ethanol is requesting the use of some of its Tax Increment Financing money to purchase equipment.
The company is requesting $198,000 from the fund for equipment at its plant.
In a TIF district, increases in property tax revenue from investments are captured and must be spent within the boundaries of the district.
Cardinal Ethanol is the only business within the Randolph County TIF district. All others are within city limits.

Honored for design work
A Dunkirk native has been honored for her interior design work.
Loree O. (Bergdoll) Everette, president and founder of Indianapolis based, Phanomen/design, was awarded Best in Class Hospitality Division of the International Interior Design Association-Indiana Chapter IDEA awards on March 1 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Everette is the daughter of local residents, James H. Bergdoll Jr. and Mitsu O. Bergdoll and a graduate of Jay County High School.
The winning project, Trilogy Salon, was judged against many other high profile restaurant projects from throughout Indiana and by a national panel of distinguished designs from around the country.
“I’m still in shock, considering the high caliber of the other projects by many larger firms. It feels incredible to have my firm’s hard work, sacrifice, and passion publicly recognized, though,” said Everette. “It’s been an incredibly good year for the firm, having our two other projects — BRU and 45 Degrees — voted Best New Restaurant and Best Ultra Lounge, respectively, by NUVO News readers. I can’t wait to see what’s next!”

IU Health Blackford accredited
IU Health Blackford Hospital was recently awarded Heart Failure accreditation by the Healthcare Accreditation Colloquium, making it the firs critical access hospital in the country to receive this accreditation.

“We had a number of physicians, nurses and other support staff who have led the way in implementing the procedures and policies necessary to earn this high honor,” said Steven West, president of IU Health Blackford.
The Healthcare Accreditation Colloquium has an accreditation process which builds on the member hospital’s prior improvement experience leading to initial hear failure accreditation.
Member hospitals work with four domains of heart failure — community, hospital, clinicians and science — using the colloquium’s continuum of care model.

Ball Memorial recognized
IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital was recently recognized in Consumer Reports magazine for earning a top-five quality score among teaching hospitals nationally.
The rankings were reported in the May 2013 issue of the magazine. Ball Memorial received a safety score of 64, well above the national average of 49, and high enough to rank the hospital fifth in the nation.
The rankings focus on five measures: readmissions, complications, communication, overuse of CT scans and infections.

Plant closing
A northeastern Indiana family-owned business says it's closing its doors after being hard hit by the recession.
Hy-Matic Manufacturing Inc. President Rick Borger told The Associated Press his Kendallville company will close its doors next week when its last customer order is filled,
Borger says he couldn't afford to keep doors open after the company recently lost its two biggest customers.
Hy-Matic has been in business in Kendallville more than 50 years. It makes high-quality specialty parts from aluminum, brass and steel alloys for engine, transmission and hydraulic applications. Customers included the heavy equipment, automotive and agricultural industries.
Borger says several of his 10 employees already have new jobs lined up.[[In-content Ad]]
