The sixth annual Fiber Fest and Spin-In will be held Thursday, March 12, through Saturday, March 14, at Jay County Fairgrounds.

The event, sponsored by the Jay County Visitor and Tourism Bureau, is devoted to the fiber arts and will include classes, entertainment and demonstrations.

Classes will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and pre-registration is required.

Friday is Educational Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and classes will be held from 1 to 8 p.m., by pre-registration. A chili supper will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. to benefit the Helping Hand Food Bank.

Saturday, the show will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mardi Gras Cafe

The Jay County High School French Club will hold its annual Mardi Gras Cafe on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the south hallway of the high school.

French food will be available for sale in a bistro setting. There will be mask making and games for kids.

Scholarship

The Hoosier State Press Association Foundation is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior who plans on majoring in print journalism in college this fall.

Scholarship applications are available at www.hspafoundation.org, then click Scholarship.

The scholarship application deadline is April 1.

Oratorical winners

Jay County Christian Academy held its Optimist Oratorical Contest.

Savanna Mace and Alexander Clark won first place and Juliana Blount and Jacob Schmit were alternates.

Student of month

Kelly Sudhoff was recently named January Student of the Month by the Mercer County Elks.

Sudhoff is a senior at Fort Recovery High School and is involved in softball, Art Club, CYO basketball, Mercer County Youth Leadership Program and is a National Honor Society officer and class vice-president.

She is the daughter of Ken and Judy Sudhoff, Fort Recovery.

Dean's list

Zachary Green, a graduate of Jay County High School, made the dean's list at Manchester College for the fall of 2008.

He is a junior majoring in biology and chemistry.

Holly Anne Taylor, Portland, was named to the dean's list at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne for the fall semester of 2008.

She is majoring in elementary education and mild intervention.

These Portland residents were named to the dean's list and semester honors list at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne for the fall 2008 semester.

Tracy Cline, James Heare, Terry Jacobs, Michael Jobe and Erin St. Myers.

Named to the dean's list was Eric James.

Names to the semester honors list were Tyler Hunley, Joshua Kable, Brittney Kirtley and Laurie Loyd.

The dean's list is for students completing 12 credits with a 3.5 GPA and the semester honors list is for six credits completed with a 2.0 GPA.[[In-content Ad]]
