Expansion set at Central States

Business Roundup

A spokesperson for Central States Enterprises in Montpelier announced Monday that the company will be expanding.
The grain facility will be adding four new silos within a month, Greg Roy, local branch general manager, told the Montpelier Common Council Monday night.
The company expects the expansion will result in two new employees.

Wind farm
A proposed wind farm in central Indiana is making progress.
E-on Climate & Renewables, a company based in Chicago, is seeking approval in Tipton to begin work on the wind farm, which could encompass portions of Tipton, Grant, Howard and Madison counties, according to a recent Kokomo Tribune article.
The farm helped delay plans by American Electric Power to build a similar wind farm in Jay and Randolph counties. AEP reached a deal to purchase the electricity that will be generated in the central Indiana project.
The company is expecting to create approximately 150 jobs during construction, and an additional four to six full-time positions upon completion.

Electric discounts
An idea from Ohio regulators would provide discounts on electric bills to companies that are creating jobs or investing within the state.
The proposed discounts start at 2 percent for companies who hire 75 employees in a year or invest $50 million on buildings and equipment, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
But residential customers and smaller businesses would be making up the discounts by paying higher rates. Other states have adopted a similar plan, according to the Dispatch.
Food safety discussion
A representative from Cooper Farms in Fort Recovery will speak at Richard’s Restaurant, 1615 N. Meridian St., Portland, Tuesday evening on food safety.
Lisa Timmerman, chicken production manager at Cooper Farms, will discuss her company’s safety practices and the way technology allows farmers to produce a greater amount of food while reducing resources used.
The discussion is a part of Tuesday’s York Rotary Club meeting.
It is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.

Classroom grants
Teachers in public schools have the chance to receive extra funding for upcoming classroom projects.
CenturyLink and DonorsChoose.org are offering grants of up to $500 for classroom projects in areas CenturyLink provides service. The “Double Your Impact” grants will match half of what is independently raised by teachers for their projects, up to the $500 maximum.
The company is planning to contribute a total of $100,000 to eligible projects.
Projects should be submitted online at DonorsChoose.org by Sept. 12.

Record sales
Tyson Foods, Inc. reported record sales of $8.2 billion in its third fiscal quarter this week.
Third quarter sales in 2010 were $7.4 billion.
But net third quarter income was at $188 million, down from $242 million in 2010.

New jobs created
Four new businesses set to open in St. Marys by early 2012 will bring more than 300 new jobs.
A new Kohl’s department store is complete and will open in September, bringing an estimated 130 full- and part-time positions. Other businesses soon to open are Buffalo Wild Wings, Tractor Supply Company and Beer Barrel Pizza.
Buffalo Wild Wings is planning to hire about 90 employees and open in mid-November, with a tentative grand opening scheduled for Nov. 13.
Tractor Supply Company is working on opening by the end of the year, and plans to hire between 20 and 30 employees, while Beer Barrel Pizza is looking to open at the beginning of February, and will employ approximately 80 people.

Focused on winning
Les Wenning, of Les Wenning New Ford Sales and Service, presents a $500 check to Fort Recovery students Alex Thien and Connor Rammel, and teacher Diane McClung. The group, along with Josh Wendel (not pictured), was provided with the money and rental of a Ford Focus to produce a commercial for a national Ford competition. The producers of the best 2012 Ford Focus commercial will receive $10,000.[[In-content Ad]]
