FAFSA workshop to be held at John Jay

Three FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) workshops will be held at John Jay Center for Learning in Portland.
The first is Monday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m., sponsored by Indiana Wesleyan University. Also two Ivy Tech sponsored workshops will be held at 2 and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2.
Copies of 2010 federal tax returns from parents and students will be needed, or some proof of income.
Also a PIN number will need to be  brought to the workshop. PIN numbers are issued by the Department of Education at www.Pin.Ed.gov. Dependent children’s parents will also need a PIN number.

Extension meeting
Purdue Extension will have its advisory council annual meeting on Tuesday, March 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the Jay County 4-H Building.
A complimentary dinner will be served, followed by a report from the extension staff and then Doug Inman from The Portland Foundation will speak on Jay County Vision 20/20.

Graduates
Several area students graduated from Ball State University during fall commencement ceremonies.
Rebecca Hahn, Portland, associate in science; Phillip Wallace, Portland, bachelor of general studies; Krista Johns, Dunkirk, bachelor of science; Kristine Burke and Jessica Morgan (magna cum laude), both of Portland, bachelor of science; Kendra Stouder, Dunkirk, Charles Medler, Portland, master of arts in education; Ryan Johnson, Redkey, master of business administration; Jessica Heitkamp, Bryant, master of science.

Spelling bee
Westlawn Elementary School in Dunkirk recently announced its Spelling Bee winners.
Chloe Trissel, fifth grade, a student of Mr. Faulkner’s class. Her parents are Kristi and Shane Trissel, Dunkirk.
Dakota Redwine, fifth grade, a student of Mrs. Hill’s class. His parent is Eric Redwine.

Art exhibit
The 2011 Regional Student Art Exhibit “Reaching into the Future” will be held March 3 through May 10 at the Hugh N. Ronald Gallery at Arts Place in Portland.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m.

Art show
The 21st Annual Minnetrista Juried Art Show and Sale begins today at Minnetrista and continues through April 30.
Exhibit hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The cost is $5.
 
BSU dean’s list   
Several area students made the dean’s list for the fall semester of 2010 at Ball State University.
From Bryant were Chase Ainsworth, Scott Bruggeman, Ashli Godfrey, Russell Haver, Clint Muhlenkamp, Amanda Pinkerton, Edward Suman and Ryan Wellman.
From Dunkirk was Ryan Shrack; from Pennville were Ashley Cosner and Sarah Horn; from Redkey was Cody Garrett; from Ridgeville were Jacinda Edwards, Donald Friend, Jordan Wall and Kellie White.

IU dean’s list
Kylie Anne Wellman, Bryant, made the dean’s list at the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation at Indiana University for the fall semester of 2010.
She is a sophomore majoring in dietetics.
