WINCHESTER - The Starfires allow an average of 57 points per game. They allowed more than that in the first half Tuesday.

The Class 2A No. 4 Winchester Golden Falcons rushed out to a 31-point lead in the opening half on the way to a 101-70 victory over the South Adams High School boys basketball team.

Tyler Koch racked up 25 points in just 15 minutes of play for Winchester (16-3), which shot 63 percent in the first half and 59 percent for the game. Levi Cross added 22 points in 18 minutes, Neal Beshears had 17 points in 18 minutes and Andrew Haney scored 15 points in 17 minutes.

All four players who scored in double figures shot 57 percent or better from the field, including Haney's 7-of-8 (88 percent) effort.

Caleb Armenta finished with 17 points and five rebounds to lead South Adams (7-12), which lost its fourth straight. Nick Teeter added 16 points, and Cody Meshberger scored 10.

Dustin Wanner had six points as the SAHS junior varsity team lost 55-26.

Eagles beat Daleville

DALEVILLE - The West Jay Middle School wrestling team dominated Daleville 70-18 Tuesday.

Dustin Tighe had one of just two pins for the Eagles, who won nine matches by forfeit. He finished off his 110-pound match in only eight seconds.

Jesse Finnerty (105) turned in a pin in 2-minutes, 23 seconds, and Chase Louck (120) won by a 12-2 major decision.

Junior varsity pins came from Bryce Bantz (100) and Dylan Harris (155).

EJMS dominates

Willie Skiver and Pierce Clott each needed less than 25 seconds to win their matches Tuesday to lead the East Jay Middle School wrestling team to a 76-13 win over Union City Westside.

Skiver (125) got his pin in 23 seconds, and Pierce Clott (145) won in 24 seconds. Braden Smith-Lykins (95) added a pin in 52 seconds.

Other pins came from Conner Ray (80), Robert Cooper (90), Michael Bruggeman (100), Brandon Poore (115), Zach Metcalf (135), Kyle Garringer (175), Lucas Boyer (HWT).

Hunter Gillette earned a pin in junior varsity action.

Eight from Jay win

Eight competitors from jay County picked up victories Sunday at the Tri-Star basketball regional contest held at Jay County High School.

Local winners included Ryan Schlechty, Jordan Stultz, Madison Miller and Gabby Hart, all of Portland, James Williams, Tyra Westlake and Phillip Anderson of Dunkirk, and Redkey's Shelby Caldwell.

Other winners were Christopher Carter and Justin Janes of New Castle, and Abby Busse from Decatur.

The winners advance to compete in the state finals March 22 at New Castle.[[In-content Ad]]
