Fall Jubilee set in Pennville (10/16/07)

Taking Note

Pennville will have a Celebration of Community Spirit on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pennville Community Park.

The Pennville Fall Jubilee - 2007 will feature wood carving, chain saw carving, pottery making, gourd demonstrations, crafts, pumpkin decorating, music, games, face painting, raffles, pumpkins, a haunted lawn and photo spots. Activities will begin at noon.

The Pennville Lions Club will be serving chili, hot dogs and fries from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with all proceeds going to the Chris Cash Scholarship Fund.

The Pennville Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a hog roast from 4 to 7 p.m.

Arts and crafts show

The Xi Chapter of Delta Theta Tau will have its 23rd annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Show on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Jay County High School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and there will also be a bake sale.

Proceeds will fund philanthropic projects such as Gift of the Heart at Jay County High School, a dental and medical health program available through Jay County Schools,the Youth Service Bureau and Jay County Cancer Society.

Minnetrista feature

Bill Gilpin, a volunteer at the Jay County Historical Museum in Portland, is featured in the Minnetrista Summer 2007 Quarterly Magazine.

Gilpin, a retired farmer and business owner from Portland, enjoys showing elementary school children, who tour the museum, how old farming equipment used to work.

Indiana Acres: The Changing Face of the Family Farm display will continue at Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie through Jan. 20. The display explains the history of Indiana agriculture and how it has changed through the years.

Celebration set

The National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture, Inc. will have its Fall Friendship Fire Celebration on Nov. 3 and 4 at the Women's Building at Jay County Fairgrounds and at the NCGLNAC site.

Professor Don Cochran of Ball State University will speak Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and a land blesssing will be Sunday at 10 a.m. at the pond.

Projects will be finished, brush will be cleared on the trail and Doyle Blooding will prepate the meal on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, Nov. 3, Bonita Bent Nelson will teach a children's workshop in the Community Room at Jay County Public Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"Everybody Needs a Rock" workshop is for children age six and older and the cost is $10.

Children will get to see tanned hides, buffalo and beaver fur, stones, bones, teeth, cattail reeds, river cane, gourds, porcupine quills and tree bark.
