Fingerprints to be taken in Pennville (06/19/07)
Taking Note
As part of Pennville Library's summer reading program, "Get a Clue @ Your Library," DARE officer Mike Brewster will be fingerprinting children, ages four and older, on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the library, 195 N. Union Street.
Fingerprinting kits will also be available for take home use. All fingerprints will be given to parents. For more information, call the library at (260) 731-3333.
Gourmet evening
The Art Association of Randolph County will host a "A Gourmet Evening: Coffee, Wine, Food and You," on Saturday, June 23, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the AARC's railroad arts depot in Winchester.
This is the second year for the event.
In addition to coffee, wine, food and entertainment, the evening will feature, "Dance With A Star," a demonstration by Jan Aukerman and Becky Dirksen, who recently won their second United Country Western Dance Council World Championship title. Organizers will be inviting and encouraging anyone with special dancing skills to participate. Additionally, Paul Ackley, caricature artist, will be creating memories for couples or groups of friends.
Tickets are $20 and may be purchased in advance or $25 at the door.

South Adams High School junior and student council officers recently presented a check for $8,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Adams County board member, Jim Kuhnle, construction foreman for the two Habitat homes going up in Berne.
Deadline approaches
The Twenty-first Century Scholars program is seeking applicants for the program through June 30 for students who were seventh or eighth graders during the 2006-07 school year.
This is an income-eligible program for families in the state of Indiana and offers free tuition to Indiana public and private colleges and universities to eligible students. Students who qualify must also pledge to not use illegal drugs or alcohol or commit a crime, apply on time for state and federal student financial aid, and graduate from high school with a cumulative grade point average of 2.4.
The scholars program is housed on the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne campus.

Sister study
Researchers of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences are seeking participants for the Sister Study. Participants must be women who have not had breast cancer, but whose sisters have. They will answer questions about diet, personal care, family history, jobs, hobbies and things they've been exposed to that may influence breast cancer risk.

Alissa Riddle, a recent graduate of Jay County High School, has won a $1,000 scholarship from Quality Dining, Inc., local BURGER KING franchise.
25th reunion
A reunion is being planned in Pennville in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana. Anyone who has benefited from the house that provides service to critically ill or injured children is asked to be in the Pennville Fair parade on Saturday, July 14.
Anyone who is interested in attending the reunion or would like to build a float for the occasion, may call Roberta Horn at (260) 731-7443.
Women at the Extension Homemakers booth at the Pennville Fair and in the Women's Building at the Jay County Fair will be collecting pop tabs to donate to RMH.

Anyone interested in having a quilt (quilted item or quilted garment) judged may bring it to the Swiss Days Quilt Show at First Missionary Church on Wednesday, July 25, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Doris Goins of Kendallville will do the judging for a $5 fee.
There will also be a chance for children to display their work in the "Quilts by Kids" category for girls and boys 18 and younger.

Indiana Farm Bureau and the Indiana Grain and Feed Association are sponsoring the Hoppers for the Hungry program for any farmer who is interested in donated a combine hopper of grain to a local food bank.
