Five swimmers lead Jay County

MUNCIE — Five Jay County middle school swimmers won multiple events Monday, pacing the team to victory over Muncie Northside.
The girls won 134-41, and the boys were victorious 125-51.
Alex Bader won both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly, and Erica Hathaway placed first in the 50 and 500 freestyle. Elizabeth McDowell also won the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
For the boys, Tayler Smeltzer won the 200 IM and 100 butterfly, and Christopher McDowell was first in the 200 and 500 freestyle.
Single event winners for the girls were Kaitlyn Dow (200 freestyle) and Courtney Miles (diving). For the Jay boys, Cody Moser (diving) and Alex LeMaster (100 free) also won their respective events.
The boys and girls teams also won all three relays.

Three compete
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three Jay County gymnasts competed in the Arnold Classic Gymnastics Challenge from Friday through Sunday.
Hanna Outcault (Level 2) posted a career-best 9.45 on the uneven bars for second place and picked up a pair of fourth-place finishes on the floor exercise (9.1) and balance beam (9.15) to finish fourth in the all-around competition.
Courtney Miles (Level 7) scored a 9.175 on beam for second, and was sixth on vault (9.15) and seventh on floor (9.3) for an all-around score of 36.15 and a fifth place finish.

Halle Hill (Level 7) placed second on the floor with a 9.35. She was also fourth on vault with a 9.1.
The trio also competed in the Nadia Comaneci International Invitational Feb. 21 through 23 in Oklahoma City.
Hill scored a 9.2 on the floor to tie for seventh and posted an 8.7 on the beam for ninth. She added an 8.75 on the vault and 8.65 on the bars for a 10th place all-around score of 35.3.
Miles placed 11th in the all-around with 35.75, scored a 9.2 on the vault (eighth), 9.1 on the floor (10th) and an 8.85 on bars (10th).
Outcault received blue ribbons in all events, representing a score of 9.0 and higher.

SELECT win tourney
FORT WAYNE — The Indiana SELECT seventh grade girls basketball team won the Gym Rats Wolfpac Invitational Saturday and Sunday at Spiece Fieldhouse in Fort Wayne.
The SELECTS, based in Dunkirk, defeated the Spiece Gym Rats 48-33 and the Wolfpac 42-17 in pool play.
They defeated the Wolfpac once again in tournament play, 41-37, and then beat the Chatham-Kent (Ontario) Wildcats 52-44 for the tournament title. It is their second-straight tournament crown.
SELECT team members are Shelby Caldwell, Maddie Lawrence, Elizabeth Reece, Rhegan Shimp, Faith Wills, Grace Bruns, Dawn Minnick, Cassidi Qualls, Gwen Omstead, Allison Hoening and Madison Beasley.[[In-content Ad]]
