Fleetwood gets abatement

The Decatur City Council granted a tax abatement to Fleetwood RV, a company reopening production plants after their purchase by American Industrial Partners.
The 10-year tax abatement is for $13.9 million in new equipment and $1.5 million in real estate improvements and the company plans to create 805 jobs.
The recreational vehicle plants, formerly a part of Fleetwood Enterprises, closed earlier in the year when the company hit bankruptcy. Fleetwood Enterprises sold several of its RV-producing plants to AIP in a $33 million deal.
Tops list
Financial firm Edward Jones ranked highest in a J.D. Power and Associates study gauging investor satisfaction.
For the fourth year in the last five, Edward Jones topped the list for investor satisfaction for full service brokerage firms. The group topped the list in 2007, 2006 and 2005 as well as tying for first in 2002 when the study began.
The study was conducted by collecting the responses of 4,400 investors with 21 firms.
More produce
Meijer supermarkets are planning to buy more produce from growers in the Midwest.
The company will purchase more than $50 million in growers in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Kentucky. The Grand Rapids, Mich., retailer operates 189 stores in five states and purchases more than 75 types of produce from more than 65 Midwest growers.
Networking luncheon
The next Jay County Chamber of Commerce networking luncheon is Tuesday.
The luncheon will begin at noon and the program will be "A Path Toward Independence" by Jack Ronald, publisher of the Commercial Review, on his free press development work in the former Soviet Union. Lunch is $8.
Profits dip
McDonald's Corp. experienced a slight drop in profits for the second quarter.
The company reported a profit of 98 cents a share, down from $1.04 per share last year.
The hamburger giant saw same-store sales fall short of expectations, rising 2.6 percent worldwide, 1.8 percent in the U.S. Same-store sales were increased as much as 7 percent in April.
Supplier conference
More than 500 companies attended a dual supplier conference for Brevini Wind and VAT-Group, companies that will produce wind-powered structures.
Brevini will produce turbine gearboxes and VAT is planning to manufacture wind-and-solar powered streetlights and vertical wind vanes as well as servicing Brevini's equipment.
Brevini will provide 450 jobs in Delaware County while VAT is expected to create 100 jobs.
New school
A ribbon cutting was held Thursday in Berne for South Adams' K-8 school.
The $20 million school was opened in a ribbon-cutting ceremony with nine students from the class of 2022, who will begin kindergarten there in the fall.
South Adams Community Schools now will have all students focused into one area, just west of U.S. 27 at the southern edge of town, where South Adams High School is located.
