BERNE — The South Adams High School volleyball team suffered a loss to its county and conference rival Thursday, dropping a 25-17, 27-25, 25-14 decision to the Adams Central Flying Jets.
Taylor Farlow had 15 digs, seven kills and three blocks to lead the Starfires, who are now 3-22. Kara Delong added 15 digs, four kills and three blocks, and Alyssa Bluhm had 13 assists, five digs and three kills.
The SAHS junior varsity squad lost 25-17, 25-21.

SA soccer falls
MARION — The undefeated Marion Giants handed the South Adams girls soccer team a 14-0 defeat Thursday.
Laura Friday scored five of Marion’s six first-half goals and assisted on a pair in the second half. Ellen Hornett added two goals for the Giants, who are now 13-0.
South Adams slipped to 2-12-1 with the defeat.

Eagles defeat Driver
WINCHESTER — West Jay Middle School’s eighth grade volleyball team improved to 5-3 Thursday with a 25-19, 25-24 victory over host Driver. The seventh graders lost 25-9, 25-15.
Courtney Finnerty led the eighth grade Eagles with eight points and four aces. Ashley Lowe finished with six points and four aces.
Emily Jobe scored seven points for the seventh grade team.

Tribe gridders split
MINSTER, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade football team shut out the Minster Wildcats 32-0 Thursday. The seventh graders lost 27-20.
Cole Hull had a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns for the eighth graders (2-4), catching a 38-yard pass from Mitch Stammen and running for a 40-yard TD.
Seth Riegle had a 1-yard TD run in the first quarter, and Ryan Muhlenkamp scored on a 6-yard run in the second.
Darien Sheffer tossed three touchdown passes for the seventh grade Indians (2-2-2) two of which went to Kyle Schroer. He also hit Ross Homan with a 65-yard scoring pass.

EJ 7th ties Northside
After giving up a touchdown on the first drive of Thursday’s game, the East Jay seventh grade football team’s defense stood up the rest of the way as the Chiefs pulled even for a 6-6 tie. The eighth grade team lost 22-8.
Michael Vanover scored the lone TD for the seventh grade team on a 42-yard run in the fourth quarter. Northside had the ball on the 1-yard line with less than a minute to go, but East Jay (2-1-1) forced a fumble to preserve the tie.
Andrew McShane had the lone touchdown for the eighth grade Chiefs on a 65-yard run in the second quarter. Kalob Toland added a 2-point conversion run.[[In-content Ad]]
