BUTLER — The third time was no charm for the Starfires.
South Adams High School lost to the Adams Central Flying Jets for the third time this season on Tuesday, falling 7-2 in the semifinal round of the Class 2A Sectional 36 softball tournament at Eastside.
The Starfires (11-19) fell behind when Adams Central scored in the top of the first inning and never led. They were within 2-1 before the Flying Jets posted five runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Alyssa Bluhm suffered the loss, giving up seven runs — six earned — on 10 hits. She struck out two batters.
Senior catcher Brianna Nevil was 3-for-3 with a run, and Bluhm added two hits and a run. Alexis Ford and Mallorie Vorhee added one hit apiece.

Swingley, Brewster lead
Emma Swingley and Grace Brewster powered Brewster Electric to a 13-7 victory Tuesday over Portland Optimist in Portland Junior League Rookie softball.
Swingley connected for singles in each of her three at bats, driving in four runs and scoring twice. Brewster racked up four hits, three runs and two RBIs.

Emily Byrum notched a double, three RBIs and a run for Optimist.
Also, Renna Schwieterman tallied three doubles, three runs and two RBIs as Jay County REMC blasted First Merchants Bank 13-2. Makaya Champ had three hits and a run for First Merchants.

Faulkner lifts Sox
REDKEY — Gabe Faulkner hit for the cycle Tuesday as he led the Red Sox to an 11-10 victory over the Reds in Redkey Junior League Major baseball.
Faulkner was 4-for-4 in the game and scored four runs, and Max Moser had four hits and three runs. In the other Major League game, Cole Stigleman was 2-for-3 with a triple as the Pirates beat the Yankees 3-2.
Quinn Faulkner powered the Mets to an 11-1 victory over the Cardinals in Minor baseball with a triple, a double and two singles. Carter Henry was 2-for-3 with a home run in the Cubs’ 9-2 win over the Red Sox.
In Minor softball, Olivia Cochran went 3-for-3 with two runs to pace Green in an 11-5 win over Red. Randi Ferguson, Hannah Chapman and Kimber Harris each had two hits for Red in a 10-6 victory over Orange.[[In-content Ad]]
