Ivy Tech State College in the cooperation with the John Jay Center for Learning and the Jay County Health Department will offer a ServSafe Food Service training program on Thursday, Oct. 28, and Friday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2005, all food serving establishments in Indiana must have a certified food handler to oversee all food safety operations.
The class, which will help area restaurants meet the requirement, will be held at the Jay County Public Library. The fee is $140 and includes 12 hours of instruction, a textbook and the certification exam.

WORKSHOP
Hazard assessment and Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspections classes will be offered on Friday, Nov. 19, at Tyson Foods-Mexican Originals, 1355 West Tyson Road in Portland.
The hazard session will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. How to establish electrically safe work conditions and hazards/risk evaluation procedures will be discussed in this session.
The OSHA class will look at the before, during and aftermath of an inspection. This session is from 1 to 4 p.m.
The cost for one of the sessions is $15 for Jay County Safety Council Members and $20 for non-members. Both sessions for members are $25 and $35 for non-members.

DEGROFF ATTENDS
Dr. Steven DeGroff of Berne’s Family Eye Care recently attended a symposium in Florida.
He went to the three-day event to obtain some of the latest technologies in diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, with special emphasis on the structures of the front portions of eyes.
DeGroff has provided family eye care in Berne since 1987.[[In-content Ad]]
