Former EJ student, teacher to be honored (10/13/04)

Anna M. Culy, Portland, who is attending Taylor University, and Warren Lowe, a teacher at East Jay Middle School in Portland, will be honored Saturday at the 2004 “Realizing the Dream” banquet at the Omni Indianapolis North Hotel.
Anna was chosen for demonstrating superior academic performance during her freshman year and exhibiting leadership in campus or community activities.
She will receive a $1,000 grant to be used for her education.
She chose Mr. Lowe as the teacher who most influenced her to attend college.
He will also receive a $1,000 professional development award.

“The Basement,” the Muncie Children’s Museum haunted carnival will be held Thursday, Oct. 14 to 16, 21 to 23, and Oct. 28, to 31, from 7 to 11 p.m.
Admission is $6 per person.

The Muncie Children’s Museum will also host its first Monster Masquerade on Saturday, Oct. 30, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
A costume contest, creepy crafts, scary snacks and a haunted photo are planned.

DRIVING CLASS
The South Adams Senior Center, 825 Hendricks St., Berne, will host the AARP Safety Driver Program for anyone over age 50 on Monday, Oct. 25, and Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Cost is $10 per person.

The Fort Recovery Public Library will host “pumpkin heads and Halloween” on Friday, Oct. 15, at 10:30 a.m.
Children are invited to make a magnetic picture frame and a pencil holder.
Also during the week of Oct. 25, children are welcome to bring a decorated pumpkin to display at the library.
PAINTING CLASSES
Arts Place in Portland is accepting registrations for oil painting for adults with local painter Steve McClung, a painting class for students of all ability levels.
The six week session begins on Tuesday, Oct. 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and runs through Tuesday, Nov. 23.
McClung, will demonstrate various techniques, while students experiment with color, composition, content and style.
The cost is $90 and includes supplies.
A second six week class will begin on Jan. 11 and March 29.

The 27th Annual October Photography Exhibit is on display through Friday, Oct. 29, at Wassenberg Art Center, 643 S. Washington St., in Van Wert, Ohio.
