Former Portland resident Emily Ronald was featured in an article last weekend in the Boston Globe.
Ronald, a graduate student in comparative religion at Harvard Divinity School, is leading a multi-faith peace quilt project for a Quaker meeting house in Palestine.
When finished, the quilt will hang on a stone wall of the meeting house in Ramallah.
Ronald is a 1995 graduate of the Indiana Academy for Mathematics, Science and the Humanities and a 1999 graduate of Williams College. She is a former costumer with the American Repertory Theater at Harvard and worked on homeless issues in Boston as an Americorps volunteer.
Group to start
PWP (People With Parkinson's) will soon have a support group in Portland.
Becci Green is organizing the group for people with Parkinson's, their caregivers, family and friends.
The group will first meet Saturday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, just south of the arch bridge and meet the fourth Saturday of the month at the same time.
"Bridge of H.O.P.E. (Helping Overcome Parkinson's Effects,) will focus on the issues faced by those diagnosed before the age of 60.

Fort FFA
Fort Recovery FFA advisors Michael Gower and Joe Hawk recently attended the District Five FFA Evaluations held in Piqua, Ohio.
The FFA officer books were evaluated and chapter treasurer Melanie Lennartz received a gold rating on the treasurer's book; reporters Lindsey Fortkamp and Kelly Knapke earned a gold rating on the reporter's scrapbook and chapter secretary Jenessa Nietfeld, earned a gold rating on the secretary's book.
Portland grad gets award
Byron Bond, a 1963 graduate of Portland High School, recently received the Chamber of Commerce Member of the Year Award in Richmond, Ky. He is the chamber's vice president for economic development.
Bond, who is dean of continuing education and outreach at Eastern Kentucky University, is also involved with the Madison County Business-Education Partnership and serves on the Madison County Industrial Development Commission.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Kalamazoo College, his master's degree from Ball State University and his Ph.D. from Indiana State University. Bond lives in Richmond, Ky. with his wife Alice (Rouch), also a 1963 graduate of Portland High School.[[In-content Ad]]
