The Fort Recovery girls track team posted nearly as many wins as it had competitors as it finished third with 93 points at the Fort Recovery Invitational Friday night. The boys team did not win any events, but totaled a boatload of second- and third-place finishes to score 94 points and place fourth.

Ansonia won both titles, scoring 145 points on the girls side and 144 points on the boys. Russia was second in the girls competition with 135 points, and Riverside took second in the boys with 126.

Vicki Roessner was in on three of the five victories for the girls team, which had just seven competitors in the invitational.

Roessner was first in both hurdle races, taking the 100-meter event in 17.0 seconds. She edged Andria Erisman of Ansonia in a race which looked even tighter than the 12 hundredths with separated the two runners.

The freshman added a first-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.08 seconds.

Roessner also teamed with Holly Stein, Julie Link and Alicia Schwieterman to win the 4x400-meter relay in 4:40.26. Roessner, Stein, Link and Kristi Westgerdes were second in the 4x200-meter relay in 1:56.43.

Stein added a victory in the shot put with a toss of 31 feet, one inch. She was also second in the discus at 88 feet, one inch.

Westgerdes earned the final Tribe victory in the 100-meter dash. She had the top qualifying time, and went on to win in the finals in 13.25.

She also took third in the 200-meter dash in 27.97, and was third in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 51/4 inches.

Link placed second in the 400-meter dash in 1-minute, 7.45 seconds.

Tom Roessner posted a pair of second-place finishes for the boys team in the hurdles. He finished the 110-meter event in 16.8 and the 300 meters in 45.93.

Jason Groff followed with a pair of third-place efforts in the distance races. He completed the 1,600-meter run in 5:11.91, and the 3,200-meter run in 11:24.52.

Dick Payne was second in the pole vault at nine feet, six inches, and Nick Hemmelgarn finished second in the shot put at 36 feet, 41/4 inches.

The relay team of Shawn Stein, Dominick Post, Matt Tobe and John Vagedes was third in the 4x100-meter relay in 49.8, and the 4x200-meter relay in 1:43.73.

Fort Recovery will now head to tournament action as it competes at the Mercer County meet Tuesday at Coldwater at 4:30 p.m.
