FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery softball team closed the gap in the fourth inning, but couldn’t keep the Ansonia Tigers off the scoreboard as it lost its season opener 10-4 Monday.

OAC gives awards

The Olympic Athletic Conference recently named its all-conference boys and girls basketball teams.

Jay County had one player on each first team — Tyler Rigby for the boys, and Chelsea DeBoy for the girls.

Rigby, who also received votes for The Associated Press all-state boys basketball team, helped lead the Patriot boys to the state finals where they lost to New Castle Saturday. He won the Arthur L. Trester Mental Attitude Award.

He led the team with an average of 11.7 points per game and 55 total 3-pointers, including four in the state championship game. He added 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assist per game.

DeBoy averaged 4.7 points and a team-best 5.2 rebounds for the JCHS girls. She was second on the squad, shooting 73 percent from the foul line.

Earning honorable mention from Jay County were Scott “Scooter” Bruggeman and Zac Green for the boys team, and Sara Garringer and Markie Runyon for the girls team.
