Fort freshmen get 1st victory

ROCKFORD, Ohio - The Fort Recovery High School freshman boys basketball team evened its record at 1-1 Monday with a 49-38 victory over the host Parkway Panthers.

Chad Schroer scored 17 points to lead the Indians, who outscored Parkway 13-2 in the second quarter to take a six-point lead at half. Mason Evers added 11 points and seven rebounds.

JC cagers win

Alex Dunn led the Jay County freshman boys basketball team to a 35-22 victory Monday over the visiting Blackford Bruins.

Dunn scored 13 points as the Patriots improved to 4-3. Cade Price joined him in double figures with 11 points, and Tyler Back added seven.

Tribe slams Tigers

ANSONIA, Ohio - Fort Recovery Middle School's seventh grade boys basketball team earned its first win Monday 41-23 over the Ansonia Tigers. The eighth grade team rolled to a 54-6 win.

Derek Backs totaled 12 points for the seventh grade Indians (1-2), who outscored Ansonia in every quarter. Cole Hull added eight points.

Elijah Kahlig and Bobby Mattraw each totaled with points as the eighth grade team improved to 3-0. Kyle Timmerman, Jacob Muhlenkamp, Cody Grube and Stew Alig all scored six points.

EJ 7th still perfect

DECATUR - The East Jay Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team shut out Bellmont in the second quarter Monday and rolled to a 47-12 victory. The eighth grade team also won, 28-26.

Malarie Houck racked up 17 points as the seventh grade Chiefs improved to 6-0 on the year. Breanne McIntire joined her in double figures with 14 points.

Katlin Petro set the pace for the EJMS eighth graders, scoring seven of her 11 points as they outscored Bellmont 9-2 in the third quarter.

Jay tankers win

MUNCIE - Anne Vormohr and Alex Bader led the Jay County Winter Swim Team this weekend as it finished first at the 10-team Cardinal Christmas Invite at Muncie Central High School.

Vormohr took high-point honors in the 11-12-year-old girls division by winning 10 of her 11 events. Bader picked up five first-place finishes and five seconds in leading the 9-10-year-old girls division.

Eliza Bader won the 8-and-younger girls 25-yard backstroke and added seven other top-three efforts. Cady Farlow placed first in the 13-and-older 100 breaststroke.

Other top-three finishes for Jay County were Sophie Bader, James Keen, Sydney Mathias, Katy Smeltzer, Grady Sprunger and Carley Stone.[[In-content Ad]]
