Fort, Jay Co. freshmen win

The Jay County and Fort Recovery high school freshman girls basketball teams each picked up victories at home Monday.
The Patriots earned a 35-25 win over the Southern Wells Raiders, and the Indians garnered their first victory 29-17 over the Coldwater Cavaliers.
The Jay County freshman boys lost 21-18 on the road to the Blackford Bruins.
Katie Aker led the Jay County girls to their victory with 14 points. Abby Dunlavy followed with eight points.
Kelsee Ontrop’s 10 points set the pace for the Tribe (1-3). Jackie Fullenkamp added seven points.
Zach Fullenkamp scored seven points for the Patriot boys, and Adam Alfont chipped in four.

Chiefs top West Jay
East Jay Middle School’s girls basketball teams defeated West Jay Monday with the eighth graders scoring a 43-18 win and the seventh grade team posting a 32-11 victory.
Breanne McIntire and Malarie Houck finished with 13 and 11 points respectively for the eighth grade Chiefs. Lucy Hemmelgarn added nine points.
Gabby Hart scored nine points for the EJMS seventh graders. Abby Wendel scored six points.
Emilie Walter totaled 10 points for the West Jay seventh grade team, and Tyra Westlake had eight points for the eighth graders.

EJ eighth wins
HARTFORD CITY — The East Jay  eighth grade boys basketball team dominated the second half Monday for a 49-40 victory over the host Blackford Bruins.
The seventh graders lost, 42-29.
Zach Pryor scored 20 points for the eighth grade Chiefs, who trailed by 10 at halftime before outscoring Blackford 36-17 after the break. Nick Clemens added 12 points, and Justin Dirksen scored eight.
Bryce Hensley had 11 points for the EJMS seventh graders, who trailed by 18 heading into the final period. Bowen Runyon scored eight points.

Three win divisions
MUNCIE — Alexis Bubp, Mara Bader and Eliza Bader all earned high-point honors in their divisions this weekend to lead the Jay County Winter Swim Team to victory at the Card Christmas Invite.
Mara Bader won eight events in the 6-and-younger girls division, and Eliza Bader added eight victories in the 7-8-year-old girls division. Bubp took first place in the 100-yard butterfly and placed in the top six of all of her events in the 9-10-year-old girls division.
Cori Stone picked up three victories in the 11-12-year-old girls division and finished third in overall points. Cady Farlow and Cameron Henry also picked up wins for Jay County.
Others who turned in top-three efforts were Alex Bader, Sophie Bader, Audra Bubp, Lillian Clemmons, Ashley LeFever, Cassidy Martin, Kearsten Myers, Cori Stone, Anne Vormohr and Sok Vormohr.[[In-content Ad]]
